Trip to the TX State Capitol

Before the government shutdown, we had planned to take a family vacation this past weekend. Our plan was to go to the beach, most likely Corpus Christi, and San Antonio for our last family of 3 vacation before heading into my 3rd trimester.  We planned to stop in Austin on our way back and visit a cave.  We had also planned to take Blue Rock to Sea World. We have some friends in the San Antonio area and we were looking forward to seeing them as well. Blue Rock has been really into salt water and ocean animals and we thought this would be fun. Sadly, since we have been hit with no paycheck and are not sure when my husband will go back to work and get paid again, we had to cancel that trip.  Rather than not do anything, we decided to drive to Austin and spend one night and have a shorter and less expensive getaway.
This was Blue Rock's first time to visit our Capitol.  On the way to Austin we stopped at IKEA. I've missed having an IKEA close to us.  In Germany we had one 10 minutes from our house.  Not that I buy a lot of things from them but I like their coffee and desserts.
In Austin, we took Blue Rock to see the State Capitol building and to see the bats that fly at sunset from under the bridge off of Congress St.  He thought it was really neat.  We considered taking Caden to a cave, however, due to the no money coming it, we decided that seeing the bats fly and saving the money would be a better choice at this time.
Saturday morning we visited a good friend from college, his wife, and kids.  They have twins that are Blue Rock's age and a 2-year old.  Blue Rock had a wonderful time and so did we!  He's been asking to go back to Austin to play with his friends there.  Apparently, it's like anything else, kids tend to enjoy the free things in life the most.  It was great seeing our sweet friends and meeting their awesome kids.
After spending the morning and part of the afternoon with our friends, we headed home.  We stopped at the Outlet Mall in George Town and ate dinner in West.  We ate at a Czech American restaurant. The Czech food wasn't quite as good as the real deal but it was decent.

Not sure if he was really allowed to do this but it made a cute picture.

Getting ready to watch the bats

Lots of fun running around outside

Sunset and the bats are flying

The black specks in the sky are the bats - there were hundreds!

Sweet friends

All of the kids got along great!

These two ran around like best buds

Although Batman joined them some too. So cute!

These two have been friends for over a decade
