Week 9: My Father's World K and Sonlight P4/5

We had another fun and busy week of Pre-K!  We are on week 9, Unit 5: Nest of My Father's World Kindergarten and week 7 of Sonlight P4/5. Since my husband has been home on furlough, our schedule has not been as regular as it normally is.  On the positive, he has been able to homeschool some which has been a nice break for me. This week, for the most part, we read our Sonlight books at night before bed.

Matthew 6:33: But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Monday: Today we did work from Developing the Early Learner and My Father's World.  This week we are finishing Unit 5: Nest.  Today he did bird sequencing.  He cut out the pictures of the stages of a bird building a nest, laying eggs, feeding the baby birds, and the birds leaving the nest.  He put them in order and told me the story of what happened 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.  I asked him if he wanted to make it into a book and he did.  So we cut a front and back cover and stapled it together.  He also cut out the nest magnet and asked to add eggs to the nest.  After he glued the eggs on the nest I wrote, "God takes good care of me," which has been the central theme of this unit.  Then we laminated the nest and added a magnet to the back of it and hung it on our fridge.  We talked about our verse from Matthew 6 and the passage about how we shouldn't worry and that God takes care of the birds and flowers and how much more valuable we are than they. We read some Sonlight books before bed and had a fun day.

Tuesday: Since Monday was Columbus Day and we did school, we took Tuesday off from school. It was a nice break.

Wednesday: My husband taught Blue Rock this morning while I filled out a mountain of paper work for my prenatal my specialist whom I had an appointment with this afternoon.  Blue Rock had to draw three things that started with "n" and write the letter "n."  He also did a few pages from Developing the Early Learner.  This morning was a little challenging.  He doesn't like handwriting very much and sometimes gets frustrated with free drawing since his pictures don't always look like he wanted them to.  Overall they made it through!  This afternoon I tested out some science experiments with him that I'm going to teach tomorrow at his co-op class. I'm teaching about sound waves. I made a bell, laughing cup, and telephone.  His favorite was the telephone.  This evening we went to church and his class made a little flip book.

The hanger sound waves

Tie a string to the top of a metal hanger. Hold up to ear and swing the hanger, hit objects with it.
It will sound like a bell and other neat noises.

Homemade telephone fun!

My son loved this!

He even tried it himself and pretended to call some of his friends.

Thursday: The government shutdown is over! My husband got to go back to work today. It was bittersweet for us as we've enjoyed having him home but it's so important that he goes to work so we can pay our bills. This morning we went to Blue Rock's co-op.  I taught the kids about sound. Since I was teaching, I wasn't able to get any pictures of the kids.  There were 5 of them, all so cute!  I let them each try the three sound machines I made, the bell/hanger, cuica, and telephone.  Then they each got to make their own cuica, laughing cup, to take with them.  The cuica is a Brazilian instrument. At home Blue Rock did his school work, painted a tree with Fall leaves and added a nest with a blue bird. I also got a few pictures of him building a marble run, helping me make some breakfast pumpkin cookies, so good, and of him helping clean the windows to our patio.  He's such a big help!

Friday: This morning we did our school work and then met our friends at Chick-fil-A for lunch and playtime.  I love Fridays during football season.  We meet them almost every week and sometimes others join us.  Fridays are usually pretty laid back days. We talked about Heaven and how there are many rooms (John 14:2-3). I made white chile for dinner and some homemade chili cornbread. It was a yummy dinner!
