Dear Princess,
Today you are 4 months old. In 3 days it will be a year from when I found out I was pregnant with you. You are a delight to our lives and we are so blessed to have you in our family.
Your 4 month check-up was today. You are thriving and doing great! Your doctor said you have excellent head control and eye contact. She said she could tell you recognized your parents and are very alert and healthy. I asked her about the naps situation since you haven't really ever slept more than about 30-45 minutes for a nap. She said some kids just don't need as much sleep. Oh, how that comment brings back memories with Blue Rock. She said at 4 months most kids take 2-3 naps a day. You usually take 3-5 naps a day. Lately it's been about 4. Some naps are a mere 5-10 minutes. Others are 30 minutes. You have been going to bed around 7:30pm, waking up about twice at night (usually around midnight or 1am and between 5 and 6 am to eat) and then waking up for good between 7:30 and 8:30am.

We talked with the doctor about vaccinations and have decided to delay until you're at least 1. Originally we were thinking about waiting until you were 6 months but decided today that it would be better to wait until you're one. I have a gene mutation that you and your brother might have which would make vaccinating more risky. I'm so glad our doctor is supportive of our delay/selective vaccination schedule. Blue Rock had so many adverse reactions that we feel like it's better to wait until your immune system is more developed. Since you are exclusively breastfed and you won't be in daycare, this is a good option for us. We've done extensive research and have prayed heavily about this matter. Overall, we're actually going to go with our German pediatrician's advice and delay them. I wish we would have done that with Blue Rock. You live, learn, and pray for the best. I think it's funny how I didn't fully "trust" the German system when we lived in Germany but now I see the benefits of how they do things.
4 months stats:
Height: 26.25 in (95%)
Weight: 16 lbs (80%)
Head Circumference: 41 cm (60%)
This past month you've started teething. You've been drooling like crazy and wanting to bite things. Mostly we'll give you chew toys or I'll wash my hands really well and rub your gums. This seems to help a lot. I'm not a big fan of teething medications. Some of your favorite things you enjoy doing are playing on your exercise mat, sitting in your bumbo, standing on our laps, and playing in your exersaucer. You love being held and carried. You enjoy sitting in your high chair at the table while at home. You love watching your brother, "singing" and cooing, listening to music, and reading books. You like reaching for things and hugging your little soft dolls. You really want to sit up unassisted. You have the best laugh and smile. We are so in love with you!
Love,
Mom
